Michael Stead Memorial Lodge

The Lodge, in Coromandel Forest Park, in the Kauaeranga Valley, behind Thames, accommodates 24 people.

It has no mains electricity but solar power provides lighting. The cooking facility and new fridge are gas-powered. Showers and flush toilets are in an out-building.

It is available for hire by BB and ICONZ groups as well as by families and other organisations.

For bookings, contact Andrew Cutler on 021-045-2405 or email at kvalleylodge@gmail.com  The Lodge is an ideal base for exploring the park, visiting old kauri dams and climbing The Pinnacles and Table Mountain.

The Lodge was built by many volunteers and opened in 1976. It is named after Michael Stead, a Boy in the 2nd Auckland BB Company, who drowned in a canoeing accident on the Whanganui River in the 1960s.
